Hero

"Surprising that a man of your stature has the bravery to be in public, let alone drink wine without an adult."

During a celebration in town, a small victory parade was held for Peter and his unit, where he encountered a curious man named Jacques. Unbeknownst to Peter, Jacques is the only person in town oblivious to his heroic exploits and imminent noble status. Dismissing Jacques as something of a fool, Peter arrogantly expressed his disdain. Little did he know, this would prove to be the worst mistake of his life.

Peter is an accomplished and highly decorated soldier, swiftly advancing through the ranks with the aim of joining the nobility. His impressive war record has earned him significant praise and commendations from his homeland from the Russian Empire, making him a beloved celebrity among fellow military personnel and a gold standard for aspiring soldiers. While most of his medals were purchased rather than earned, this fact has done little to tarnish his reputation. Peter hopes that his latest decisive victory will finally secure the promotion he needs to be recognized as a nobleman after years of dedicated service.

Trivia

  • Peter is the epitome of a "perfect soldier," known for his charm and charisma, though he harbors insecurities about not yet achieving noble status.
  • Exceptionally handsome, he exploits his popularity with women, rumored to have seduced a woman in every country he's visited, a typical Hussar trait.
  • He shares superficial respect with his commanding officer but secretly resents him, eager for noble status to retire and manage his modest merchant family.
  • Musically inclined, Peter often entertains comrades by singing opera and playing the accordion in his leisure time.
  • Slightly superstitious, he displays religious tendencies during stressful moments and tends to react quickly to situations, often lacking an understanding of consequences.
  • Peter adapts to situations easily, often responding quickly due to his straightforward nature. He tends to take things at face value, which has benefitted him in many instances, though this approach does not always yield favorable results with others.
  • Peter's name mildly references only the name of the composer of "The Nutcracker Ballet", and nothing further. His personality is quite unlike the hero in E.T.A Hoffmann's (and Alexandre Dumas') , "The Nutcracker".

The servants of Jacques are spared Peter's wrath, as they serve as his caretakers, providing him with food and a listening ear for his woes. Peter recognizes that they do not act of their own volition but are compelled to obey Jacques' every command; thus, he does not hold them responsible for the actions they must sometimes undertake. They represent the only semblance of respite Peter has left.

During a celebration of his latest victory, Peter encountered Jacques, the first individual who had never heard of his exploits. This affront was met with Peter's swift and cutting retort, which served to humble Jacques and embarrass him before the gathered townspeople, who joined in the ensuing laughter. In light of this encounter, Jacques resolved to illustrate Peter's profound insignificance, vowing to dismantle his career entirely.

COWORKER

Peter considers Alexander a close friend, yet he finds himself unsettled by Alexander at times. Despite having endured the horrors of war, an unsettling aura surrounds Alexander that Peter cannot shake. Nonetheless, the two frequently share drinks, laughter, and tales of past glories while eyeing local women as potential prospects. Their status as war heroes grants them a place as minor celebrities, making them a formidable duo.

While Oliver has not directly participated in Peter's torment, he has been deemed guilty by association for being a student of Jacques. Oliver holds no personal animosity toward Peter; however, his opinion of him is equally tainted by Peter's general response to his new circumstances.
